Hello! I’m Helen and I have owned Bigwigs Hair Salon since October 1997. It was a scary thing starting up a new business at the age of 27 and being a single mum to my daughter, Jazmine, who was only 3.
I have been hairdressing now for over 27 years (ouch I feel old!) I have many certificates under my belt, which includes NVQ Level 1, 2 and 3 and award in Teaching Hairdressing. Also I have attended the Wella Studios in London and passed advance cutting courses, advanced foil techniques, Hair Up by Patrick Cameron. Also I attended several courses at the Tigi Academy, London to acquire a Creative Colour Certificate. Advance Cutting Courses also. I have now just trained in men’s advance cutting and barbering and wet shaves with a cut throat razor! My husband’s been the model for that hehe!
I feel you need to train regularly to keep up with the new techniques and styles that clients want. It also gives me a buzz of enthusiasm, which feeds off to the clients.
I am so proud of Bigwigs. It’s not your average Salon it’s friendly and fun to be in and professional as my aim is to ensure my clients experience a relaxed and comfortable environment in which they can get their hair done.
Welcome to bigwigs, I'm Kim, the girls here call me "kimbo"I have been at bigwigs from 15yrs old(I was born 1989, ill let you work my age out !!! Hehe ) I started off as a Saturday girl I got my Saturday job by coming to bigwigs to do my work experience I knew I always liked and enjoyed hairdressing as I was influenced by my mum and also in school (yr 11) I was awarded for always having different hair. I did my apprenticeship with bigwigs team where I also attended S.C.A.T once a week and I achieved my Nvq level 2 in a 2yr course , I then went on to do my level 3 and my assessors course I achieved all of this and then had my little girl Layla after maternity I came back to bigwigs and settled in well I then thought I would try out being an assessor at Bridgwater college but only did this for a short period as I swapped my scissors for a pen and I missed hairdressing and learning lots of new things from our friendly clients. Time has flown by and In that time I have also had a little boy called Reggie and got married March 29th 2014 to my hubby Cenk ( I know a strange one, it's not Miss typed lol it's pronounced 'Jenk', it's a Turkish name as my hubby is half Turkish) we have a lovely family home and to make it complete we have two beautiful dogs,'Dotty' the Dalmatian and 'Bonnie' the springer spaniel.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and hope to welcome you to bigwigs very soon :) .
Hi Im Avril
I’ve been a hairdresser since i left school. I am now married with two lovely children.
I did my training at the hair academy South west Taunton. I worked in a local salon in Taunton for 8 years before joining the team at Bigwigs in September 2015. I am NVQ level 2 and 3 qualified. I have been on many training courses brushing up on new techniques and skills including courses with Peter Lunn. I’ve also done mentoring for new students for a year to help them learn the basics of hairdressing. Recently Helen and i have been on a cut throat razoring course with Simon Shaw of the Wahl academy. We also did a day with Simon barbouring and new styles for men.
Look forward to meeting you
I’m Lisa, I’ve been at Bigwigs since 2004. I have just had a year off to have my baby girl “Arabella”. I have returned to the Salon and feel like I have never been away and am very much enjoying being back a few days a week! I love being a mummy, but also love being back with the girls at Bigwigs.
I first started here at Bigwigs at the age of 19 after having a few different jobs! Hairdressing has always been something I have been passionate about and working in a team of great friends makes my job very enjoyable.
We are all very close and work well together. Our work is taken seriously, but we all also know how to have a good laugh, which helps make the Salon environment very comfortable and fun for our clients!
Hi, I’m Lauren, I’m 21 and have been working here at Bigwigs since September 2011. This always comes as a surprise to people as I look more like I’m about 12! I came straight from school to do my apprenticeship in hairdressing and did three years at Bridgwater College to complete my Level 3 NVQ.
My favourite part of being a hairdresser is colouring. It’s amazing how much difference a bit of colour makes to a person, not only in the way that they look but also in the way that they feel. Balyage and Ombre would have to be my preferred techniques to use, however, I also enjoy creating all the Pastel Fashion Colours.
Working here has made me become a much more confident person. I used to be a quiet little mouse, but the girls, here, have brought me out of my shell and turned me into the bubbly person that I am today.
Hi my name is Cerys.
I have been working at Bigwigs since February 2016. I started off as a Saturday girl, I began my apprenticeship in August 2016.
When I was little I used to dream of being a hairdresser, I’d play with my dolly’s hair all the time.
I am very excited to be learning all the different techniques and skills in hairdressing.
The Bigwigs squad have made me a more confident person and has made me realise how much I love my job, and that it’s my future career.
All the girls here at Bigwigs have helped me whilst working here. I cannot wait to qualify and be able to have my own clients – my own Column!!
Here’s to great future at Bigwigs.
